Madonna may be approaching her golden years, but she’s still gold on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine, celebrating the fashion publication’s 50th anniversary. She last appeared on the cover 25 years ago.
For the May 1990 issue, Madonna was a fresh-faced 32-year-old and the magazine was celebrating its 25th Anniversary. She wore a short flapper-girl style brunette wig and a tight white spaghetti-strapped top.
Now 56, Madonna posed for the latest cover wearing a Marde Gras style mask and a black top. She’s biting a string of pearls.
Inside, Madonna strikes a provocative pose wearing stockings, a black garter belt and black panties with a slip top. Her legs are spread wide as she sis on a chair.
The Material Girl hits out at the entertainment industry for sexism and ageism, despite the passage of time.
“Don’t be fooled, not much has changed—certainly not for women. We still live in a very sexist society that wants to limit people. Since I started, I’ve had people giving me a hard time because they didn’t think you could be sexual or have sexuality or sensuality in your work and be intelligent at the same time. For me, the fight has never ended.
Madonna certainly has no plans to slow down. She just released her 13th studio album, Rebel Heart, which hit No. 1 on the pop albums chart in its debut week, showing she still relevant as an artist. Her first self-titled album was released in 1983.
For her latest set, Madonna collaborated with rapper Kanye West, who is just as strong-willed as her.
It’s a little bit of a bullfight, but we take turns. “He knows that he’s walking into a room with a person with a strong point of view, and I do too. I listen to what he has to say, take it in, and he listens to what I say and takes it in. We didn’t agree on everything, but he has good ideas.”
