Justin Bieber and Will Smith offspring Jaden Smith have teamed up again for a duet written by Justin as a gift to his fans for the New Year.
“Thank you for 2011; lets have a better 2012! #happynewyear,” Bieber tweeted as the ball dropped in New York’s Times Square.
Bieber, 17, was on duty for New Year’s Eve. He performed on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” to revelers and a television audience.
He released the new song, titled “Happy New Year,” over Twitter shortly before midnight. “2012 is a year to be better strong and closer to the people around you,” he voice overs midway through the track. “So grab someone special, and just, you know…”
“Happy New Year” is his first song since he released his well-received Christmas album “Under the Mistletoe.”
Justin and Jaden Smith previously collaborated on the Frank Ocean song “Thinking About You.”
The New Year’s song is a moody, mid-tempo love song that opens with chords from a stringed orchestra and Jaden rapping.
“It’s almost the New Year,
And it too clear,
Me and You
and a rootbeer float,
In the house, about to countdown
We got a whole crew here, yo
They about to party.”
The chorus goes:
“5, 4, 3, 2, 1…Kiss me.”
