That’s just one of the many mysteries she failed to clear up regarding the show. But she proved one thing: she could sing… the “National Anthem” that is.
She opened her Super Bowl news conference today with an a Capella version of the “Star Spangled Banner” to put to rest criticism for lip-syncing the song at President Obama’s inauguration last week.
“I’m performing at the half-time show,” she told assembled reporters. “Before, the [inaugural] was not about me. I’m excited to have done both, but now I’m onto the halftime show,” she added.
And what a show it will be, if all the advance preparation pays off. The 31-year-old singer said she has been rehearsing for five months.
“I will absolutely be singing live. I am well rehearsed and I will absolutely be singing live… This is what I was born to do. What I’m born for,” she said.
“All of the things I have done have prepared me for this, so I’m ready,” she added, calling the show a highlight of her 16-year career.
“I got chills when I saw the Super Dome; there’s so much history there,” she said. “I got into Super Dome, took my shoes off, planted my feet on the ground and just ran. I’m so so happy right now in my life. This is just a huge opportunity. I’m so, so excited.”
As for the Destiny’s Child reunion, fans will just have to wait and see, she said. ” I can’t really give you any details. I’m sorry,” she explained. The same thing goes for husband Jay-Z. She declined to say whether he’ll be part of the show as well.
The trio have released a new single, and the group’s compilation album hit the streets this week. Group member Michelle Williams said in a radio interview this week their appearance is still up in the air.
She is currently appearing in the Broadway musical Fela! at the Sydney Harman Hall in Washington, D.C., but the show has issued a notice that she won’t be appearing Jan. 31 through Feb. 3, which coincides with the big game.
