Hayley Williams romps in an upbeat video for Paramore’s “Still Into You!”
The indie pop band is charting a new course with the album, which dives into mainstream pop music. Paramore drew from Katy Perry to create a candy-colored, pastel kaleidoscope for the video.
Unlike songs by Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez that bemoan breakups, “Still Into You,” is an ode to peppermint patty love. It’s supposed “to capture what love feels like,” video Director Isaac Rentz told MTVNews.
Williams dances up a storm to exploding fireworks as she and bandmates Jeremy Davis and Taylor York spin around on bikes through a vacant mansion, no doubt a victim of the Beverly Hills real estate recession. But that’s about the only sour note.
Compared with their past albums, 2005’s debut All We Know Is Falling and Riot! from 2008, the band’s fourth studio album, released today (Apr. 9), is far more commercial.
After a tumultuous few years when original band members Josh an Zac Farro both departed, Williams may be longing for more mainstream recognition. If so, she got it. The album debuted at No. 1 on iTunes.
“Dear @jtimberlake I’m sorry our album had to bump you down to #2 for a bit,” Williams tweeted with glee. “You are still #1 in my heart. Thx for sharing the top spot. YAY!”
