The lads, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson, each play a different role in the video.
We won’t give away who’s who here; that’s revealed at the end of the video. But it should be pretty obvious to fans of the band. Oddly, despite persistent rumors that two of the boy banders are gay, they still play very gay characters.
The video also had a tie-in to their new movie, “One Direction: This Is Us,” which hits theaters Aug. 30. The lads are meeting with a fictional studio mogul to discuss a concept for the movie. A parade of people help pitch different ideas, including a very gay choreographer, costume designer and fetching secretary.
The boys blow them all off, not the characters, the ideas!!!
In the process, the lads, who were chosen from UK “X-Factor” rejects by Simon Cowell, poke some fun at the whole boy-band concept, including themselves. Nice to see a little self-deprecating humor.
The goofiness is even reminiscent of early Beatles and The Monkees from the 1960s. Although many critics still find it hard to take them seriously, their first album did something even The Beatles’ first couldn’t do; it debuted at No. 1 on the US charts and No. 1 for digital downloads.
