Nicki Minaj talked about her alter-egos, Barbie and Roman, on NBC’s the “Today Show” this morning, but it was all Nicki on stage. She belted out “Starships” and what she described as a “grittier” song.

Minaj also revealed that she is suffering from a bruised vocal cord. “Doctors orders. Out for the count now,” she tweeted, suggesting doctors are recommending vocal rest.

She tweeted earlier that doctors had recommended two weeks of rest, but she appears to be ignoring their advice. She’s still slated to appear at Britain’s V Festival this weekend.

Minaj is one of several singers who are nursing injuries due to their heavy performance schedules. “Another x-ray cmng up! Its a bruised Vocal Chord. … Jordin Sparks was praying for me backstage cuz she had a bruised vocal chord too! Haha! We were so dramatic!”

Frank Ocean just canceled most of his European tour because of throat problems.

Nonetheless, Nicki went on with the show in Rockefeller Plaza, putting on a solid performance, although some fans claimed she was lip-syncing, which could be a distinct possibility because of her condition.
