Brown and Rihanna caused shockwaves last year when they teamed up on remixes of her song “Birthday Cake” and later released another duet “Nobody’s Business.” Now Brown tells MTV another song is in the works.
“So we did ‘Nobody’s Business’ for her album, and then I wrote a song; it’s called ‘Put It Up,'” he said. “It’s more of an R&B record.”
He characterized the song as “youthful and at the same time sexy.” As for the “It” in the song, “You know what ‘It’ is, so just ‘put it up,'” he said at MTV studios in New York.
“I wanted to do an R&B record with Rihanna because I didn’t want it to be the same four-on-the-floor, pop,” he explained. “At the end of the day, that’s what they expect from us, so I wanted to do more of a record that nobody really heard her sing on as far as that genre.”
And he added that an album would be a “crazy” idea. “You gotta wait though X and then you get the Rihanna and Chris Brown album!” he laughed.
Brown was in the Big Apple to hit the talk shows in advance of his new album, titled X. He met with Matt Lauer on the Today Show this morning (Apr. 1) and talked candidly about the lessons he’s learned since he assaulted Rihanna in 2009.
He put to rest rumors about his on-again, off-again relationship.
“We’re fine,” he told Matt. “Everything is good.”
“I think it’s just me proving myself once again, and also just me being a man. And also knowing what I did was wrong and never doing it again,” he explained. “As far as me and her is concerned, she knows my heart and I know hers.”
