Lauren Daigle follows a long list of Christian artists who have broken through to the mainstream. She appeared on the “Ellen DeGeneres Show” today (Oct 24) to sing “Still Rolling Stones,” the first single off her sophomore studio album Look Up Child.
Daigle, 27, is well-known to Christian music fans. Her first full-length album, How Can It Be, debuted at No. 1 on Christian charts when it was released in 2015 and reached No. 16 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart.
That put her in the same league as earlier Christian singers like Debbie Boone, Jars of Clay, Amy Grant, who pioneered the trend, and Amy Lee of Evanescence. All enjoyed crossover success.
Last year, Daigle’s power vocals landed her a gig in Hollywood. She wrote and sang the song “Almost Human,” for the “Blade Runner 2049” soundtrack.
Look Up Child was released last month and cemented her as a major crossover artist.
The album debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Top 200 chart making it the highest-charting Christian album overall since Hard Love by Needtobreathe hit No. 2in 2016.
The album also became the highest-charting Christian album by a woman on the Billboard 200 since LeAnn Rimes set You Light Up My Life peaked at No. 1 in 1997.
Despite her success, Daigle isn’t about to shy away from her Christian roots.
“I don’t shy away from singing about my faith. I think it conveys honesty, and people see authenticity. More people are going to relate to my music if it’s sincere. I believe that wholeheartedly,” she said in a Billboard interview.
