Rihanna broke into fashion as a Georgio Armani model in 2013 with big plans to launch her own fashion line. At Britain’s Fashion Awards, she saw her efforts awarded by winning the Urban Luxe prize for her brand, Fenty.

The Barbadian singer broke the mold by regularly featuring women with voluptuous curves instead of stick-thin models in her lingerie campaigns.

The event at London’s Royal Albert Hall Monday (Dec. 2) also honored longtime supermodel Naomi Campbell.
Sir Jony Ivey presented her with the Fashion Icon award, She was overcome with emotion as she tearfully revealed that she was the first woman of color to receive the honor.
The 49-year-old English model, actress, and businesswoman was discovered at the age of 15, and soared to the top ranks of fashion models in the ’80s and ’90s.

“This is an an out-of-body experience. I learned today that I’m the first woman of color to receive this award,” she said during her acceptance speech.
“That leaves me to say who I consider my style icons: Grace Jones, Josephine Baker, Eartha Kitt, Donyale Luna, Bethann Hardison, Naomi Sims, Dorothy Dandridge, Diana Ross, Diahann Carroll, Janet Jackson, and Tina Turner.
“I could go on and on, but I want to thank you for paving the way for me and inspiring a generation,” she added.

But the night was shared by Rihanna.
Singer Janet Jackson made a surprise appearance to present the award to the singer. She praised Rihanna’s sense of style as well as spoke of the wider respect for the singer.
“You’re loved for your style, your boldness and for your strength as a woman. You’re respected as a successful artist, fashion designer, activist, entrepreneur … congratulations to Rihanna for Fenty,” Jackson gushed.
Tyler, The Creator was also drafted in to present the award.
Rihanna looked visibly shocked. She praised Stephanie Phair, the British Fashion Council’s chairman, as well as her collaborator Jahleel Weaver.
“Thank you so much for believing in me as a young black woman and giving me the opportunity to do what I love the most,” she said.
Naomi praised her mother Valerie for raising her “single-handedly. You were my mother and my father.”
It was also a big night for Italian high fashion brand Bottega Veneta and its Creative Director Daniel Lee. He won four awards, including Designer of the Year, British Designer of the Year and Womenswear and Accessories Designer of the Year.
The company won coveted Brand of the Year.
Sarah Burton won the Trailblazer Award for Alexander McQueen.
The Outstanding Achievement Award was given to legendary fashion designer Giorgio Armani, with aspecial mention for the late renowned designer, Karl Lagerfeld.
