Lady Gaga has jumped the gun on the release date for her latest single, “Judas” after the song leaked onto the Internet today (Apr. 15). It’s off her upcoming “Born This Way” album, which is touching on controversial subjects.
Judas is the much-anticipated second single and takes another shot at the Catholic Church, with a “Ju-das, Ju-da-da-as,” opening refrain.
Madonna plowed the same turf 20 years ago with “Like a Prayer” but the tunes are totally different, even if the subject isn’t. The Beatles also probed religion in their music, for that matter.
The track is one of the darkest yet for Gaga, although she clings to a euro-dance beat.
Is Gaga secretly wishing for a rebuke from the Pope?
Just check out the lyrics from the opening chorus:
“When he comes to me, I am ready
I’ll wash his feet with my hair if he needs
Forgive him when his tongue lies through his brain
Even after three times, he betrays me,”
Gaga and choreographer Laurieann Gibson are ginning up a video. Gibson told MTV that Gaga will play Mary Magdalene and Norman Reedus will play Judas.
The song was scheduled for release on iTunes next Tuesday (Apr. 19), but the leak of a scratchy, apparently pirated, version on the Internet today, prompted the early release.
