  • Beyonce has released a new single, “Girls (Who Run The World)” amid a rush of new songs by such artists as Britney Spears and Lady Gaga. All three singers will be releasing, or have just released new albums.

The song is pretty standard for the R&B artist. It’s got a heavy synth dance beat that drives the tune, which includes sampling from producer Diplo and Switch’s song “Pon de Floor.”

The song is almost a call for empowering women; Here’s a sampling of the lyrics.

“Some of them men think they freak this like we do,

    But no they don’t,

Make your cheque come at they neck,

    Disrespect us no they won’t.”

The lyrics also seem to be a counterpoint to many rap songs, which objectify women, or worse, treat them as whores and subject them to abuse.

Beyonce’s album is due in June. If the theme is female empowerment it will put her in good stead against the competition.

She also just released the single “Put It In A Love Song” with Alicia Keys.

Spears has just released a new album Femme Fatale that is heavily dance driven. She is about to embark on a tour in support of the disc.

Lady Gaga is also expected to release her latest album “Born This Way,” soon. She also plays on empowerment in her music, focusing on such issues as gay rights.

Meanwhile, Katy Perry’s just released her fourth single “ET,” making Teenage Dream the third album in chart history with four No. 1 hits.
