Just a little country Miley Cyrus went hard rock with one of the hardest rockers of all, Joan Jett. The duo hooked up on Oprah in a live performance, singing a medley of Jett’s greatest hits.
Cyrus, 18, and Jett, 52, belted out Jett’s “Bad Reputation,” “Cherry Bomb” and “I Hate Myself for Loving You.”
Jett also played the guitar.
The performance was part of Oprah’s Women Who Rock series, and she also hosted Sheryl Crow with Stevie Nicks and Avril Lavigne with Pat Benatar.
Miley is about to launch her first ever South American tour and will also hit Australia. It’s all part of her Gypsy Heart Tour which hits the road, April 27.
One route Miley won’t be taking is through the United States.
“I just think right now America has gotten to a place where I don’t know if they want me to tour or not,” she told Fox News.
“Right now I just want to go to the places where I am getting the most love and Australia and South America have done that for me.”
As Miley has transitioned to a sexier, more adult style, shedding her Hanna Montana image, her record sales have fallen off in the United States.
Her album, Can’t Be Tamed sold just 102,000 copies in the United States in its first week, an under-performer compared with previous record.
Part of the problem may be the fact that Miley no longer easily fits into any genre. Her country/pop roots have been blurred as her music becomes more hard rock oriented.
Maybe duetting with Jett will help her move more in that direction. Check out the video below.
@Theimproper, I thought that you were supposed to be an expert in the music industry??? I should be clear to anyone who looks that Miley Cyrus’ label, Disney/ABC-owned Hollywood Records, deliberately sabotaged sales for “Can’t be Tamed.” They did far less than the normal promotion for a superstar of Cyrus’ caliber and only released one single from the album in the crucial North American market. Although Miley Cyrus, her producers, and even Bret Michaels–who did a duet with her of his Every Rose has its Thorn–pleaded with the Disney/ABC suits to release other singles, but they refused. The normal album by a leading singer these days gets at least 3 promotional singles released, why only one in the United States for Can’t be Tamed? It should be obvious to anyone who looks that Disney/ABC sabotaged the record’s sales as a way to punish Cyrus for leaving Disney behind and seeking contracts with other companies in her film and music career. So, why did Can’t be Tamed only sell about half as much as Cyrus’ previous record? Ask Disney/ABC executives.
I love Joan Jett. you can call her my hero even. she has done with the runaways and with her solo careers so much that other female artists wouldnt even dare. she’s so talented and writes such wonderful (badass) music. but PLEAASE dont perform with miley cyrus. i mean Miley cyrus? thats a joke! why? i was kind of disappointed in Joan.
