Kara Dioguardi, the sexy songwriter who scored a bundle as a judge on “American Idol,” got a welcome Christmas present. She unloaded her Studio City mansion for $6.3 million and appears lucky enough to have broken even or made a slight profit.
The Los Angeles real estate market is still hit or miss four years after the financial crisis and real estate bust.
Dioguardi bought the house in 2007 for $3.5 million, but dropped a substantial amount of money renovating the 1923 property. She restored it to its Roaring ’20s grandeur, with some contemporary flourishes.
“It hadn’t been touched in years. She did a top to bottom renovation,” listing agent Blair Chang told Zillow.com.
The property’s expansive three-acre lot, nestled behind private gates and shielded with lush landscaping, sets it apart. The privacy is almost worth the price, not to mention a 50-foot long infinity pool tucked into the back yard.
“You come up this driveway, you feel you’re in another world. It’s private and self-contained. You don’t feel like you’re in Los Angeles,” said Chang.
The only drawback is the French chateau-style, which has been widely copied in far too many garish McMansions. Still with five bedrooms, six and a half bathrooms the house is practical.
Dioguardi, 42, went over the top to redo the kitchen. she added Calacutta gold marble countertops, a large island and Ann Sachs tiling and a commercial grade six-burner stove. The songwriter obviously drew inspiration from the master bathroom, with marble floors, his and her sinks and deep tub.
She reportedly put the house on the market because she plans to spend most of her time at another home in Maine. Check out the photos and be sure to follow TheImproper on Twitter for all the latest celebrity updates.
