Taylor Swift is beating up on her ex-boyfriends again in the latest song from her upcoming album “Red.” Released today, the song, aptly titled “Red,” is about getting over a guy who treats you badly. Is this another jab at Jake Gyllenhaal? Taylor sings about the thrill of falling in love and likens it to driving a Maserati down a dead-end street. Ouch! You guessed it; the relationship ends abruptly in a major crack up....

Demi Lovato Back to Scene of Crime in South America for Show (watch)

Demi Lovato must have had bitter-sweet feelings about returning to South America for Brazil’s Z Festival. She was touring South America in November 2010 when she slugged a dancer in a rage and landed in rehab. Lovato, then 18, was opening for the Jonas Brothers Band on their South American tour. The singer was furious after Jonas’s Dad, Kevin, found out about her late-night partying after a tour curfew. Lovato, now 20, believed dancer Alex “Shorty” Welch had “ratted” her out. She confronted Welch and turned violent....

Rihanna Soars Skyward in New Single ‘Diamonds (in the Sky)’ (listen!)

Rihanna looks skyward for the inspiration for her latest song, “Diamonds (in the Sky).” It’s a love ballad with a thumping bass set against piano and synthesizers. She implores her lover to “shine bright like a diamond.” Almost every move the singer makes these days is interpreted by the trashier tabloids as some kind of gesture involving her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. It seems likely the same interpretation will be applied to this song. Although the title is also a play off The Beatles’ 1967 song “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.” The song was widely interpreted to be about the drug LSD, although The Beatles denied it. So maybe Rihanna is just singing to her blunt....

Taylor Swift's 'Begin Again' Laments Another Love Lost (listen!)

Taylor Swift has released the second single “Begin Again,” from her upcoming album. It’s another haunting ballad about love gone bad that has been spawned by one of her soured relationships. The question is, which one? Swift, whose music is often inspired by her real-life relationships, is known for her songs that sting her ex-boyfriends for doing her wrong. Her first single off the album, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” touched off speculation, once again, over the target of her venomous putdown, with ex-flame Jake Gyllenhaal emerging as the odds on favorite....

Lana Del Rey Goes Downtown on New Up-Tempo 'Paradise' (listen)

Lana Del Rey has released a new track, possibly off her upcoming reworked Born to Die album, “The Paradise Edition.” Titled “Paradise,” it’s up-tempo while still adhering to her big band orchestration and mood-instilling echo chamber. The 26-year-old singer must have finally gotten the message that her songs were stuck in a rut. She ditches the breathy lyrics and Adagio pacing for something closer to Allegretto, which is a fancy way to say she speeds up the beat. The tune is also appears to be dance influenced. Del Rey sing-speaks the lyrics, something less than a rap, and sings the mellifluous choruses....

Adam Levine, Maroon 5 Are Kings of Rock With New Album

Since Adam Levine and Maroon 5 burst onto the scene in 1997, they’ve been hard to ignore. With songs like this year’s “Moves Like Jagger,” “Payphone” and the current “One More Night,” they’re the kings of rock. I love Levine’s voice; face it, he’s got the perfect instrument and his role as a judge/mentor on NBC’s “The Voice” has clearly bumped him along. He may be playing the bad boy onscreen, but clearly, he knows exactly what’s he’s doing....
